Zündapp was a serious German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a developer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is actually German for Igniter along with Apparatus). The first Zündapp motorcycle was your model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of weighty motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 800 cc displacement and was an important success, increasing Zündapp's market talk about in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 horsepower (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Footwear no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 in addition to 1941 and supplied exclusively towards Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and eventually replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to call home beyond the destruction associated with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production from the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 along with few modifications.The Zündapp K800 acquired unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a page layout adopted by Honda to the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the one 4-cylinder machines used with the German armed forces throughout WWII.

From 1931 Ferdinand Porsche in addition to Zündapp developed the prototype Automobile für Jedermann ("car intended for everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen had been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder level engine, but Zündapp used the water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid.From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp developed the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp which has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were being built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit using a driven side wheel plus a locking differential, supplied to the German Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as 9-092, which was used in light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abs initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the business transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine because of its type. In 1951 Zündapp released a final of its heavy street bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder serps. After the bankruptcy, the entire production line and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Powerplant Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till earlier 1990s. Zündapp is still operational, but makes Honda dependent 4-stroke motorcycles and power mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai inside the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (dependant on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed canister barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that country.
