Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer started in 1917 in Nuremberg by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a manufacturer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). The 1st Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 with the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft together with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed products from 200 to eight hundred cc displacement and was a major success, increasing Zündapp's market write about in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% with 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp . p . (21 kW) flat in a trench opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). Via 1931 Ferdinand Porsche and Zündapp developed the prototype Auto für Jedermann ("car pertaining to everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder flat engine, but Zündapp used some sort of water-cooled 5-cylinder radial engine. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost in the war, the last in the 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid.From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp generated the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp that has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were being built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced a lot more than 18, 000 units of the Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit which has a driven side wheel along with a locking differential, supplied to the A language like german Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as the 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abdominal initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller machines, notably the "Bella" generator scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for the type. In 1951 Zündapp released the last of its heavy bike models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (your "green elephant") using a 598 cc two-cylinder motor. From 1957 to 1958 the organization also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievement in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning this 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and yet again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds marketed well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and sealed.

After the bankruptcy, the entire production brand and intellectual properties had been bought by Xunda Engine Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bicycles from 1987 till the early 1990s. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electric powered mopeds.Zündapp also had some sort of technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to construct mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai inside early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake along with a sleeveless hard chromed tube barrel, all were a first with a motorcycle in that state.
