A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus plus the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle.
