Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer launched in 1917 in Nuremberg by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel under the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a developer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is German for Igniter and Apparatus). The 1st Zündapp motorcycle was the particular model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle pertaining to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to the drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then a novelty). After WWII this company transitioned to smaller devices, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy motorbike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder engine. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the company moved from Nuremberg to help Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some success in motorsports with biker André Malherbe winning this 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds available well, but later sales rejected and in 1984 the organization went bankrupt and closed.

As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production line and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Electric motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till the first 1990s. Zündapp is still in operation, but makes Honda primarily based 4-stroke motorcycles and electrical mopeds.Zündapp also had any technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to production small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (based on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed storage container barrel, all were a first on the motorcycle in that state.
