The initial Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 using the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft together with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 400 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market write about in Germany from 5% with 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 horsepower (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often along with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Start no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 along with 1941 and supplied exclusively towards the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and eventually replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was for being the only remnant to live beyond the destruction regarding war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside the late 1940s, it chose to reuse the KS600's motor for you to power the KS601 together with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 experienced unit construction, flat-four engines with base drive (a design adopted by Honda for that Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used by the German armed forces in WWII.

Via 1931 Ferdinand Porsche as well as Zündapp developed the prototype Auto für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the very first time the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder smooth engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes ended up running. All three cars were lost in the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp developed the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp which has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were being built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced a lot more than 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit that has a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the German born Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines like 9-092, which was used throughout light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abdominal initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the business transitioned to smaller devices, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the past of its heavy motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") using a 598 cc two-cylinder powerplant. From 1957 to 1958 the business also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the corporation moved from Nuremberg for you to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some accomplishment in motorsports with participant André Malherbe winning the particular 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and yet again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds available well, but later sales dropped and in 1984 this company went bankrupt and closed.

Following the bankruptcy, the entire production series and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Generator Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bicycles from 1987 till the early 1990s. Zündapp is still operating, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and power mopeds.Zündapp also had a new technical collaboration with Noble Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to create small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (dependant on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and also a sleeveless hard chromed cylinder barrel, all were a first with a motorcycle in that land.
