The initial Zündapp motorcycle was this model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of heavy motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to the drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft having two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was an essential success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% throughout 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hewlett packard (21 kW) flat opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Footwear no. 1) sidecar human body was produced between 1938 in addition to 1941 and supplied exclusively on the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and finally replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was for being the only remnant to reside in beyond the destruction involving war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production within the late 1940s, it chose to recycling the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 using few modifications. The Zündapp K800 acquired unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a format adopted by Honda with the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the one 4-cylinder machines used from the German armed forces throughout WWII.

By 1931 Ferdinand Porsche as well as Zündapp developed the prototype Car für Jedermann ("car for everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used the water-cooled 5-cylinder radial engine. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost through the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp generated the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp with a foot gear change, and 170 examples ended up built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of this Zündapp KS 750. After WWII the business transitioned to smaller products, notably the "Bella" generator scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine due to the type. In 1951 Zündapp released one more of its heavy motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (this "green elephant") using a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the organization also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the firm moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievement in motorsports with participant André Malherbe winning this 125cc European motocross titles in 1973 and yet again in 1974. As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production collection and intellectual properties had been bought by Xunda Powerplant Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and energy mopeds.Zündapp also had a new technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to construct mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to make small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus along with the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (determined by Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle.
