Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG along with the machine tool manufacturer Thiel under the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary. m. b. H. " as a producer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand pertaining to weapons parts declined following WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor on the company, and two years later he diversified into the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the microcar, moped and Scooter (street bike) markets. The very first Zündapp motorcycle was your model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. After WWII the company transitioned to smaller equipment, notably the "Bella" generator scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. They produced small Zündapp motorbikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and electrical mopeds.Zündapp also had a new technical collaboration with Noble Enfield (India) to build mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus plus the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (based on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake plus a sleeveless hard chromed tube barrel, all were a first on the motorcycle in that state.
